Meet The Team

I have been licensed as a Professional Counselor in the State of Oklahoma for over 17 years. I particularly enjoy working with women and their unique issues and concerns. I also have worked with children and families involved in special family situations, i.e., grief, divorce and DHS.

I specialize in serving women, children and families. I believe that all women need to feel good about themselves and be all they can be. Some times all it takes is someone believing in them.

I have chosen the path of Licensed Alcohol Drug Counselor and Mental Health (LADC-MH) in an attempt to assist others who are caught up in addiction and or mental health on their journey through life to reach the goal of sobriety or stabilization. I have walked the path myself and can testify that there is a better life than the life of being in addiction. I have been involved in substance use and mental health since 2008 as a student in both the Bachelor program and then Master program at UCO for Substance Abuse Studies. This program has been recognized as one of the top programs for drug and alcohol counselors in the United States. I started as Behavioral Health Case Manager II (BHCM II) and upon graduation from the Master program I immediately went under supervision to obtain the LADC-MH licensure. I am now fully Licensed and have been for over 2 years. I have worked with people who have been involved in Drug/Mental Health Court, Child Welfare, Medication Assisted Therapy, and others who have sought therapy on their own for both/either substance use or mental health issues. I believe in being trauma informed and client centered in my approach to guiding people to reach their goals.

I believe that counseling is a collaborative partnership in which both the therapist and client are working towards a common goal. As your guide and facilitator, I try and assist you in achieving those goals through a variety of techniques and interventions. My goal is to equip you with skills you can use and apply outside the counseling setting. I believe that self determination and self advocacy are key components of the therapeutic process. Each counseling setting is individualized to address the unique needs of each client.

I have extensive experience working with older children and adolescents who are experiencing behavior difficulties due to a wide range of concerns including ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and ODD. Additionally, I am adept at functional behavior assessment, positive behavior supports and IEP development and management.

Susan Dawn Gibson, M.E.d, LPC

I have a Master of Education in Applied Behavioral Studies/Counseling from Oklahoma City University and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in behavioral therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. My areas of expertise include anxiety management, depression, anger, and treatment of complex trauma. Additionally, I treat adults suffering from borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and have extensive experience working with disabled children, adults and their families, including individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

My therapeutic approach is to provide support and counseling to help clients effectively address behavioral challenges that significantly increase stress and inhibit quality of life. I combine traditional complementary methodologies that include Cognitive Behavioral, Adlerian and Person-Centered therapies with current neurological research to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client’s needs. I currently offer home-based, school-based, telehealth, and in-office sessions to meet the complex scheduling needs of individuals and families. 

I am a Licensed Alcohol/Drug/Mental Health/ Counselor LADC/MH who has been in the field professionally since 2015. I thoroughly enjoy helping people overcome the obstacles that make life difficult to navigate. My approach to therapy centers around the client and what kind of change they want to happen. I have experience in treating addictions, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I like to work with adults and adolescents. I believe that tools are the key to success and want to teach my clients how to take charge of their lives by building behavioral techniques that will be their own tools for success.

My heart is and always has been for the safety and well-being of children. My career began as a K-12 teacher in public schools. I wanted to have more of an impact on trauma affected children, so I became a school counselor. As a school counselor, I was introduced to autism. I began to see that children suffering with PTSD and autism struggle with many of the same somatic concerns. I went into school psychology in an effort to learn to identify, diagnose and treat these two populations. I opened a small clinic in Chickasha, Oklahoma in 2013 to provide trauma and behavioral therapy for these two populations using my LPC. During this time, I was serving multiple school districts with psycho educational testing and working in mental health part-time.

In July of 2021, I closed the clinic and moved to Yukon to become a certified school psychologist in El Reno. Mental Health positions within the school are mostly about identification of students and training of teachers. I missed the ability to actually treat the children and help parents, so I have decided that I should go back into practice. My hope is that I can help children and families recover from the physical and emotional bondage of trauma. I have training in several different modalities to treat PTSD in children and adults. I have also completed training to become a Certified Clinical Autism Specialist. I have been working with children suffering from autism for over a decade. I would love to be able to provide parents and families with the knowledge that I have garnered during this time to effect change in behaviors and quality of life. Because I am working full-time in the schools during the day, I am only available for evening and Saturday sessions.
